After the previous two posts of short poems, I was looking forward to write something different. I received a good morning message from one of my friend’s and message had the above quote, “Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass….Its about learning how to dance in the rain….”. The quote has a lot of meaning, as we dig in deep into it.
The first thought that flashed as I read the message, was it stated to be happy and stay the same even at adversity.
The thought is an amazing message for anybody to receive, as it asks you to hold your calm. Another thought flashed; as I thought why it cannot be even more.
The thought clearly tells ‘learn to dance’; I read this as learn to work your way through the adversity. Sitting and waiting for the tough times to pass is bad; but trying to be happy comparing oneself is also not very good. Yes, it gives you happiness and a feeling that you’re blessed; but looking into the mirror…..there will always be a question, “Is this where I belong to?”
“Is this where I belong to?”
A question that pricks a journey inwards. If the question doesn’t arise at the point of ‘storm’, then the journey inwards would never happen. This journey inwards that starts can lead you into miracles. A journey of ‘self discovery’. The best trip you can ever make. I would like to share small story, which I remember at this point in time.
This is about a friend of mine. His parents parted ways at a stage when he was in his University education. He had no other support, apart for his mom, who was a house wife. The problem arose when he had to earn a living, and support his studies. All by God’s grace, this friend of mine was good at teaching and what had started as a interest in his second year, became the source of his livelihood in the next. He started taking classes, after his regular classes and would still manage to clear his subjects. This went on for a year, after which came the last year that had to be completed. The issue here was that most of his students had passed out of schooling and the source of income was becoming bleak. This is when silver lining in the cloud struck and his approach to a school to teach mathematics turned positive. Then he started teaching, part-time in a school and went on to run round the clock and also completed his degree very well. Today, this friend of mine is doing well; this is ‘learning to dance’ and just not being silent and happy by comparing with someone who is suffering more than you. A way to be happy and come out of ‘storms’ is hard work, self belief and faith in God. Nothing can beat these.
‘When the questioning does not happen and you resolute to fate?’
This is another friend of mine, married and with 2 children. She’s a simple woman, who married early and in the mean time failed to complete her studies; although she was pretty good at it. Things were fine for the initial few years and then hit a crisis, when the family faced a loss in business and things started getting tough due to loans that they had borrowed. After this entire episode she failed to realize that something could be done, after several advices from many people to work on something, she still continues to just help and not start anything new. There are things in life that end, when you make an attempt to do it. This is where I would like to request all my friend’s, especially girls to work and be independent and also be able to support the family. Please, do not quit jobs as things are comfortable back home; being your independent self, helps gain respect and also keep some reserves at cash. People might argue, saying money is not everything in life…. I would simply like to add, “Please say that after you have made enough…… probably after you have lost the count of zeros of your bank balance, with first number not a zero ”.
I would like to add a small dialogue from the telugu movie kushi, ‘Inta badha padite, inta kashtam teertundante chepu….. ante badha padta….. badhalu teeraka poinappudu badha padadam endukanta’. The meaning goes to say, when cribbing doesn’t solve problem, why crib at all..which makes a lot of sense. As this energy can be diverted to work your way out.
Thereby ‘learning to dance’ comes in storms, and after you learn the stage is all yours to enjoy the limelight. Every storm, teaches you a new form, so remember one day after all the storms, you might be the best dancer…….
